Marketing Time Warp: TCS Edition

The Group Head of Marketing (GHOM) calls an emergency meeting with his Market Intelligence Manager (MIM). The GHOM, a legendary figure who revolutionized marketing in the 80s, has just attended a conference and is bursting with excitement.

GHOM: "I've had an epiphany! We need to pivot immediately to something called 'digital marketing'!"

MIM: *cautiously* "Sir, we've actually been trying to implement digital strategies for the past decade..."

GHOM: *waving dismissively* "No, no, this is brand new! I've got it all figured out. We'll place banner ads on CompuServe and get a spot in the Yellow Pages online directory!"

MIM: *exchanging glances with other team members* "What about our social media presence?"

GHOM: "Brilliant idea! We'll host cocktail parties twice a month! Nothing more social than that!"

MIM: "I meant platforms like TikTok, Instagram—"

GHOM: *interrupting* "Write this down! Our new campaign: 'TCS – Now Available On Floppy Disk!' We'll mail them to our top 100 clients!"

*Marketing team stares in horror*

GHOM: *excitedly* "And for market research, we'll set up focus groups and mail out surveys with self-addressed stamped envelopes!"

MIM: *whispers to colleague* "Should we tell him about data analytics?"

GHOM: *proudly displaying a thick binder* "I've printed out all our customer emails! Let's analyze them by hand!"

*Phone rings*

GHOM: "Hold on, I need to check my beeper. It might be the graphic designer. I asked him to create a flashy animated GIF for our new website. It only takes 3 minutes to load!"

*Marketing team silently updates their LinkedIn profiles under the table*

Narrator: "TCS Marketing: Where the digital revolution is still on hold waiting for the dial-up connection to complete."
